I'm not sure I understand why that is. Can you give an example?
TeX uses curlies, so something like a continued fraction will
have two close-braces, confusing the parser:
x = a_0 + \cfrac{1}{a_1 + \cfrac{1}{a_2 + \cfrac{1}{a_3+\,\cdots}}}
(This is the first equation in the article "continued fraction".
