Something related to OpenStreetMap is the obvious candidate, if it
won't melt their somewhat underpowered servers to link them too much.

There's a hack already implemented on enwiki entirely using templates,
involving embedding KML source in subpages, that allows a KML map to be
displayed on your web-based KML viewer of choice (such as Google Maps).
It works, but is not widely used.
Perhaps it should be revived?
