It should be running a little smoother now, I've been making some more tweaks.
Link cache now prefills from the 'links' table; this reduced load average from ~8 to ~5 and seems an improvement. I've got the profiling going... most pages are loading in much less than a second. Some are taking a few seconds. And a very few are taking a LONG LONG time.
Speed'll continue to bob up and down until I find the right combination of configuration variables and optimizations.
