mediawiki-l is a mailing list for users of the MediaWiki software, a lot of whom are used to responding to requests for extensions or hacking advice; this list is more suited to those involved with/interested in the MediaWiki implementation (not to mention the servers and other tech. stuff) Wikimedia adopts.
