I'd wager sendmail can be configured with a higher threshold. (But, since sendmail was designed with satanic powers to drive men mad, I don't know how to configure it so.)
Jimbo, a couple weeks ago you mentioned something about looking for spare hardware which might be used to have separate database and web servers. If we can get that set up, that would be a big help on this front too, as sendmail could sit on the less loaded of the two.
