If you have to jump through a bunch of extra hoops to get to it, then we've already lost the ability to easily get back where we came from. A 'pages that redirect here' would be only slightly more helpful than Whatlinkshere, as it doesn't tell you which one you actually came through.
Of course, there's also someone else's suggestion of using the session variables to remember where you came from and still display a "redirected from" line. As far as I can see, you haven't replied to that idea.
That would be a) extremely unreliable, b) harmful to caching.
