Two issues:
1. So many people are trying it out, that
test.wikipedia.org is

No, it's just that
test.wikipedia.org is always ridiculously slow. ;)
2. Is there an opportunity to ask for
differently-named accounts to be
added to the mix (i.e. I have 'Werdna648' on meta, can I add that into
the accounts to be merged?).
Not at the moment. We'll consider the issues relating to user-directed
merging of different account names, though, since some people will find
it useful.
