OAuth - breaking change in special page names

Hi all, I've just merged https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/91500/, which changes the names of all of the OAuth special pages from MWOAuth to just OAuth. That means starting Thursday[0], any OAuth consumers will need to use Special:OAuth/initiate instead of MWOAuth, etc. I don't anticipate us doing many breaking changes in the OAuth exchange. Since we currently only have 1 approved (non-demo/test) application, we felt it was better to do this now, instead of waiting and having to coordinate with more developers. Help on Research

Hello My name is Igor Steinmacher and I am a Research Scholar at University of California, Irvine. I am conducting a research aiming at finding how to support new contributors during their first steps in the project. My final goal is to verify what kind of tooling is appropriate to support the newcomers overcoming their difficulties when they are willing to contribute to the project. The first step of my research is to find out what are the main obstacles and difficulties faced by these newcomers. My goal is to hear from the community itself, interviewing new contributors and core members. By having the information regarding the main problems, I will start figuring out which mechanisms can be applied to provide the support. I will keep the anonymity of interviewers and I have the commitment to publish/return the results of myresearch to the community. I need your help answering my interview. We will conduct the interviews via textual chat, and we can schedule it at the time that fits better for you. Please send me a private email if you are interested in supporting my research. I also request your help reaching out core contributors so that I can gather the best information. The data will help gain insights about newcomer issues, and allow us to propose initiatives to alleviate the problems faced by newcomers, as a tentative to retain them. Subclassing User?

Hi, given that there are some extensions which perform edits/actions automatically (not directly as a result of user request), I was wondering, was anyone attempting or successful at subclassing "User"? There are some places where name of this class is hardcoded. //Saper

Code Climate for Ruby and JavaScript

I have set up Code Climate[1] for a few WMF repositories that have Ruby code[2] but looks like it created JavaScript reports[3] (instead of Ruby) for a few repositories[4][5]. FOSS Outreach Program for Women: call for candidates, projects, and mentors

Interns of this program work full time in an open source project during 4 months. https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/FOSS_Outreach_Program_for_Women Candidates interested are encouraged to add themselves to the table at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Outreach_Program_for_Women/Round_7#Candidates - even if you are still preparing your proposal. We are actually running late (my fault). The application process is open until November 11. The internship period goes from December 10 to March 10, 2014. The Wikimedia Foundation is planning to fund up to 8 interns. This is a great opportunity for Wikimedia / MediaWiki related projects. HTTP Archive now tracking several Wikimedia wikis

The HTTP Archive (<http://httparchive.org/>) audits the setup and performance of popular websites, reporting things like load times, download sizes, performance scores, waterfall charts, and cache headers. They provide per-site reports as well as aggregate data about trends in web technology. They added several Wikimedia wikis to their index last month and the first two reports (dated Oct 1 and Oct 15) are available. The reports for the desktop site of the English Wikipedia are available here: <http://httparchive.org/viewsite.php?pageid=11675485>. (I do not expect to see much variation across Wikimedia wikis, since they are co-hosted on the same infrastructure.) There's a wealth of data available. It should help us assess how we're doing relative to other sites and where we need to improve. I plan on studying this data on an ongoing basis and I invite / encourage you to do the same.
