Hello,
I have a problem with getting the language indices to work after importing
the english wiktionary database dump to a locally running mediawiki
instance.
What I would like to see is the
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Index:Englishpage working at my
localhost address. This page is not found.
What I have imported is the regular "articles" dump file and the category
and category links dump files. Are the indexes in a seperate dump file or is
there a script to build them or something? What am I missing here? Any help
would be much appreciated and I apologize is if I didn't include all the
relevant information.
Best Regards,
Nathan Day
Gentlemen, can you refrain from changing the whitespace in RELEASE-NOTES?
$ svn diff -r BASE:HEAD RELEASE-NOTES
===================================================================
--- RELEASE-NOTES (working copy)
+++ RELEASE-NOTES (revision xxxxx)
-* Add width parameter to Special:Filepath to allow getting the file path of a thumbnail.
+* Add width parameter to Special:Filepath to allow getting the file path of a
+ thumbnail.
What happens is apparently somebody or something comes around about once
a week and neatens up the whitespace in this file. This causes the
person doing diffs to mostly get irrelevant whitespace changes that even
diff --ignore-all-space --ignore-blank-lines --ignore-space-change
won't ignore.
Therefore neaten the whitespace upon adding lines, not via a batch job
later; or don't neaten it in the first place. Thank you.
This past week, we've successfully pushed the preliminary version of
1.17 out to the Wikimedia servers. As anyone familiar with large
software deployments could tell you, this uncovered some more bugs
that we hadn't yet caught.
We've spent the time taking bug reports and triaging them, figuring
out what we need to fix, how important the bug is, etc.
In the hope that someone is looking for a weekend programming project,
I'm posting the list of bugs here, sorted by importance and impact.
If you want to fix something that has a lot of impact, it is probably
best to start at the top. If you're looking for an easy weekend of
hacking, you're probably better off starting close to the bottom.
In any case, we would like to get these bugs need to be fixed before
we begin putting a 1.17 tarball together. That's an important
milestone for me personally since I want to start working on the 1.18
release sooner rather than later.
If you do decide to start working on one of these, please respond
on-list so that we'll have an idea of how much interest there is in
this sprint to a release 1.17.
I'm also not done setting priorities, and would love some help with
that. (For the purpose of this sprint, ignore the priority settings I
talked about in my earlier email.)
If you are pretty sure the priority is wrong, and it doesn't look
like anyone else has touched the priority, then be bold and set it (I
reserve the right to reset it). If there is something where I've set
the priority, but you don't agree, then reply on list or, for faster
response, ping me (hexmode) on IRC.
I don't want to encourage edit wars, but I'd like to make sure that the
list has a reasonably accurate ordering, so that we don't let really
critical problems in this release linger longer than they need to.
And now, without further delay, the bug list:

Mark.
Hi all,
I'm trying to modify an existing Vector toolbar section. I found the
following at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:WikiEditor/Toolbar_customization
, in the "Modifying things" section:
"The best we have is a hook to change the configuration of a section
just before it's being built:"
However, since the MediaWiki:Common.js and the user JS are loaded at
the very end of the page, the toolbar is already built by the time I
try to modify it. I tested with the code at
http://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Toolbar.js and what I noticed
is that, while the exterior function is being called, the callback
function is not.
Could someone give me any pointers on how to make a new page in the
existing 'characters' section? (I was able to add one in a newly added
section just fine, but I want it in the characters section)
Thanks,
Strainu
P.S. I take this opportunity to renew my appeal for a simplified,
non-technical way to add elements to the toolbar (bug 25068)
Hi, I've been thinking about the early history of Wikipedia and
about what which sort of topics got written early on. I'm wondering if
there is an easy way to find the first N wikipedia topics (where N is
say 100,000) in the order they were created.
Hey everyone,
for a few weeks now, I have been using a Firefox extension which automatically
redirects me to the secure.wikimedia.org server when visiting a Wikimedia
site. Unfortunately, this does not work for all wikis, e.g. the OTRS wiki is
not included in the redirect rule set. At first, I was thinking about creating
a rule and submitting that to the extension developers, but then I thought:
Shouldn't we require HTTPS by default for wikis containing sensitive
information, such as the OTRS wiki and similar ones (oversight? foundation? I
don't have a full list right now, but can imagine that there are more.)?
Regards,
ChrisiPK
First, I'm impressed. I'm happy with the amount of energy that has been
focused on getting MediaWiki ready for a 1.17 release.
Since my post on Friday night, we've managed to fix a fair number of
blockers this weekend. Since I'd like to give the people who helped
close these bugs credit, I've identified them here. If you feel you
should (or should not) be recognized, I apologize for my error.

Thank you all for all of your help in getting these 16 bugs closed. I'd
also like to point to Paul Copperman's contribution of his (yet another)
JS minifier that he ported to PHP in an effort to solve the bug that was
at the top of the list:
27528 JS minification still outputs incorrect javascript for some
input
I've no idea if we will be able to use it, but I'm impressed by the work.
Finally, I've taken the feedback I've gotten into account and am
releasing a list of the bugs that specifically block the release of a
tarball (bug #26676) instead of WMF-specific bugs (bug #27339). There
is a very good chance this bug list will grow, but after this weekend,
I feel confident that we'll be able to make it shrink fast.
Again, these are ordered by priority, so take what I said last Friday
about this sprint list into account: if you think something is
classified incorrectly, please re-classify it.
