Specialpages and overdue note

I must be completely stupid, but I can't seem to create a special page for mediawiki 1.5.8 following any flavor of the instructions on Meta - Help!!! On another note, I had previously been all excited about this theory that spam would tend to be a lot of urls posted in a wiki (or accross several wikis) and that posts of individual urls would be more likely to be legitimate. After mangling some data (an long overdue thatnks, Brion, for the link to the catpcha log data) I quickly came to the conclusion that this theory wasn't going to be useful - plenty of spam of one or two urls, and some mulitple posts of legitimate urls. Oh well... the captcha thing is a great solution though. So, if someone could steer me in the right direction on the special pages, I'd be very grateful. Thanks, Aerik

Hi. Using WikiMedia, I've got problems to access my main Page: http://mydomain/Main_Page And I get an error message: ---- /Main_Page >From MyWiki, the free encyclopedia. (There is currently no text in this page) Retrieved from "http://mydomain.com//Main_Page" ------ I use this RewriteRule on my httpd.conf: ------- RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php?title=$1 -------- Why I get a double slash on the URL? Making non ugly URL's breaks my wiki

Hello Everybody, I have tried in vain searching around but haven't found a solution for my problem. Hence my post here. I am attempting to use the url found below to make my wiki(located on an intranet) a)look pretty b)make sphyder my indexing tool work better. I use the method outlined in section 1.1 http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Make_non-ugly_URLs I am running on solaris 2.8, apache 2.0.55 and php 4.4.0 & mysql 5.0.15. I have a stock install of mediawiki(1.5.7). I have no major changes to the mediawiki instance that I am able to recall. I made the changes to LocalSettings.php and http.conf and restarted the web server. This is where I run into these weird problems. I further emptied the cache in all my browsers(Opera, Firefox & IE), and further truncated the objectcache table. 1. The skin changes. I prefer the monobook default skin, but after the change outlined above I get the really simple skin version of the wiki. No amount of changing user preferences seem to help. 2. The user settings totally go out of wack. I am unable to either login if I am not logged in, nor am I able to log out if I am logged out into the wiki. I have tried in vain to diagnose the issues, but to no avail. Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Further is there any where I can take a peek at LocalSettings.php and httpd.conf for a similar setup from any of the popular mediawiki based web sites(or even wikipedia.org or mediawiki.org) and see the differences vis a vis my site. Generally 1.6 is working quite nice on our own servers, but the installation and updater code might not be as well exercised. Since SourceForge's developer CVS has been down for a couple days solid, I've gone ahead and set up our own source control server. The repo is now running on Subversion, and for the moment is running on my offsite server (along with the wikitech server work status wiki). We may later move it onto one of Wikimedia's servers. The repo includes all revisions and branches from the old CVS archive, and anonymous access will be immediate unlike the delay after commits that we had on CVS. I've whipped up a few quick notes here: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Subversion At the moment only myself and avar have commit access, but I can add more people shortly once we have it better set up. Commit notifications by email and IRC are working; the viewcvs-ish thing isn't quite working yet. [No this is not an April Fool's joke. Problems on block ip user in Chinese Wikipedia

Hi, buddies. The Chinese Wikimedia users need some technical help from the developers at the Foundation. As everyone here believes, the government of P.R. China has blocked access to all Wikimedia sites using its "Great Firewall"; Wikimedia contributors and users in Mainland China have to use proxies to visit Wikimedia sites. However, most of these proxies are unstable, so CNBlog.org (a famous and prominent advocacy of blogosphere in China operated by Social Brian Foundation, which hosted the First Chinese Blogger Conference last year) has setup a stable proxy for Chinese users. With this service, Mainland Chinese users can access Chinese Wikipedia using http://wikipedia.cnblog.org, and Chinese Wikinews using http://wikinews.cnblog.org. There are over 16,000 visits and over 110,000 page requests per day this month. CNBlog.org has been very helpful to Chinese users, and it is planning to expand its proxy service to cover all Chinese Wikimedia projects, which is really great news. Unfortunately, Chinese Wikimedia administrators are frowned upon an issue that came up recently: lots of vandalism is done using the CNBlog proxy. Currently, the IP of the CNBlog proxy is displayed and logged in edit history on Wikimedia. If an administrator blocks this IP (CNBlog proxy), all Mainland Chinese users who are using CNBlog proxy, either logged-in or not, will be blocked as well and not be able to contribute. Some Chinese Wikipedians discussed this issue with CNBlog.org, and we believe that a technical solution should be feasible. We also discussed some technical details, and I will send another e-mail to wikitech-l regarding the details. Basically, we would like to have users' real IP (IP used to access CNBlog proxy) displayed and logged at Wikimedia. We send this e-mail to here on behalf of many Chinese users. escaping double quotes in <MATH> tags

Hi all, I'm going mad. I simply want to insert some text like: A("B") within an expression contained within <MATH> tags. Is this even possible? The closest I can do is using double single quotes, which produces a weird effect. How do I do it? The article in question is [[en:Diagonal lemma]]. Thanks, Steve
