Just now, I re-uploaded the same image twice, and clicked "Del" beside THAT
version, fully expecting only that extra version'd be deleted. But nope, all
history of all images are gone, even the description (that had been changed)
too.
However, the image remains, and so do the link-lists: See
http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Smaller_map_of_China.png
I tried to restore, but that's not even on the "restore deleted page" list.

I found what happened.
Yesterday, I changed my preferences "offset time"
(because the server does not take into account our
summer time, so I switch from +1 to +2). The pb
occured immediately after.
What apparently happened is that the server did not
save *any* prefs at all. That was probably exactly at
the moment the server got down yesterday. Because 1 mn
after, the en wiki was down.
This morning, I went to my prefs page, and
*everything* was blank.
I mean, there was absolutely no choice, not even radio
buttons
No password
no email
no skin choice was on
no toolbar was checked
all "text box" dimensions were empty (null)
all options were unchecked
Basically, all you could see was Anthere, number 3,
and empty choices everywhere, even when these choices
are mandatory.
Very curious
so, not my dino browser Aoi, just "perfect timing"

What is going on on the fr wiki ?
My prefs are all weird. I do not recognise the skin at
all.
And when I edit the page, the edit window is only
"one" character wide.
This is not true on the german wiki.
???
Does anybody else see that ?

Les franais, tout se passe bien pour vous en terme
d'dition ? Pas de pb ?
Ma skin a disparu et la fenetre d edition ne contient
qu un seul caractere ???

I keep getting the following message on wiki, even having cleared my cache.
Could not connect to DB on 130.94.122.197
Host 'larousse.wikipedia.org' is blocked because of many connection errors.
Unblock with 'mysqladmin flush-hosts'

It happens even I try to contact the developers, and using either safari or

Hello,
the Finnish locale for Wikipedia is attached (gzipped)
I ripped the half-ready translation from the Meta-Wikipedia, and
completed it. However, I can not put it directly back there. All the
Scandinavian letters (auml and ouml) turn to question marks when using
cut-and-paste, and I really don't feel like typing it all again.
The translation should be checked for typos and mistakes,
but it should be understandable (to a native Finn, at least).
I have removed some Finglish (Special = Erityis, not Spesiaali etc.)
from the old translation.
If there is anything weird in the file, let me know. I really have no
idea on php (I prefer python or tcl) so this may contain some odd
mistakes.

Hi,
I have a request, with the blessing of Jimbo Wales, to open
up a subdomain on WP for the exclusive development of open
content textbooks. The subdomain name
http://textbook.wikipedia.org has been suggested .. Jimmy
told me to send an email to this group so that someone
could do the under-the-hood work to get it going ... Thank
you very much !!

I'm personally (a) clueless about how to do this, and
fearful of
breaking something and (b) totally swamped. Brion is
taking a week
or two off, as I recall, so technical stuff isn't being
handled with
the usual diligence.
This will happen, yes, but it will take a couple of weeks I
bet.

Is the inability to restore deleted image intentional (if so, why)?

In case you haven't noticed: Wikipedia is f**king slow again about once
in an hour. At least the German Wp. Time for restricting special pages
and searches again? Or should we start with SQL queries this time?
I hope not everybody is as annoyed as I am.
Kurt
Could it be that we're hitting a bandwidth bottleneck on pliny and/or
larousse? The Wikipedias are really slow, but it's not so much the queries
that take long -- the page loading itself is fairly slow. To test
bandwidth, I did a
#wget http://en.wikipedia.org/tarballs/20030616_cur_table.sql.bz2
and I got only 6-7 KB/s (I seem to remember that I got about 30 KB/s on
the DB download the last time). Anyone got an idea what's going on?
Regards,
Erik
