Thank you Tausif for the translation. (I wanna know
how you did it...
Machine or help from others?)
By the way, all the issues are fixed.
1. If the program finds a {{underconstruction}} template, it will skip
back to previous one (i.e. no changes will be made)
2. For months, Tamil uses some Grantha characters in month names (Ja, Joo
etc.) But, by using it cautiously (A edit help atop the editing box, which
tells the correct word).
So, as of now, all issues at least one is purely fixed (1st) another one
is virtually fix.
So, anyone can use the code with credits to authors :)
Note: In Tamil Wiki, picture is updated twice in a week (WED, SUN)
Thanks
Surya Prakash

Please find the translation of the page (

helpful.
**beginning of translation**
This luva program was created on May 26, 2013 at Chennai Event on weekend
events of the Wikimedia, by Tamil wiki user Surya prakash and Wikimedia
user Yuvraj Pandian.
The purpose of this tool is to automate the updation of the Main Page.
For example, the template of a Main Page articles, Did-you-know, featured
picture, portal intoduction, user introduction and list introduction, and
its contributors are incessantly changing.
In a few cases, the contributor at the right time are unable to make the
update. This program was written to do exactly that in this difficult
situation. The main page of English Wikipedia is being updated through this
method. But since we lack enough contributors other wikipedias such as this
one(Tamil Wikipedia) is not being updated everyday.(The "Today" section is
part of the daily converted by wiki notation).
The main page of tamil wikipedia is being update in the following days
weekly
Articles are update on sundays Did-you-know are update on wednesdays
Featured picture are update on wednesdays Portal section are update on once
per month Lists section are also being update only once per month.
Hence, instead of the contributors updating manually for the frequency of
updation, they could do the updation whey they have the time and this
program would update it when it is required based on the frequence set. If
the updation isn't availabe or not preset by the contributor for the next
occurence, the program would look for the previous ones and update them.
Therefore, there need not be a fear of "Red
Line" in the Main Page.
Known Issues As told by Bala,
1. Currently, we have put main page sub-templates as
"under-construction". Therefore, when the date arrives they will be ready
and will be saved as drafts. For example, If there is a section that was
saved draft which is still incomplete and the contributor forgets about it.
When the day comes for updation, the program will update the Main page with
the incomplete section. We need to avoid this.
2. The template topics are in the name of the month(June vs June. March
vs March, etc.). This could be changed to the number corresponding to the
month (1-12)
Solution
1. Soution to the first problem is a bit difficult. It is possible only
by the contricutors and other occasional contributors/helpers. Until the
section is complete an "Under construction" template could be added to
that. Upon further discussion with Yuvaraj, we might end-up in a better
solution. And the manual will be soon processed as soon as possible.
2. Solution to the second issue is quite simpler. The name of the
template that is used in MediaWiki shall be used across all.

It looks like people could use this template on a
main page to display
a
featured article, a user, changes from the
current month, and so on.
(I
ran the Tamil documentation through Google
Translate and didn't
understand everything; an English translation would be welcome, as
would
a TODO list for future options to add.)

Wow.
I'm waiting for an English translation too before informing the
Italian community, but at a first glance this looks awesome. This is
yet another giant leap for us, thanks to Lua.
Kudos to Surya, Yuvi, and all the others who were involved into this! :)
