The short-term limitation is not having OAuth, which we should get soon.  In the meantime, we recommend you create a new account for the wiki with your existing username, but with a different password.

Our long-term plan for full Wikidata integration is called "Wikisprout", and we're currently at Stage 2, getting on the Interwiki map:

If you are interested in getting involved in the tech branch, there's a Phabricator board [1] and Cloud VPS documentation [2]. Wikibase skills are probably what we need most at this point, but there's also plenty of things to do in wiki administration, MediaWiki extensions, wiki templates...
