I purged the file on Commons, this should remove all thumbnails; I
reloaded the page in edit mode, it showed a black square, then it loaded
a new image, is it correct?

Yes. it is correct; but what is wrong is, that in view mode a different
thumb is showed! This causes lots of confusion in users.
I presume that it comes from something specific of proofread extension; I
presume that thombs fro view mode are cached somewhere specifically.
