The issue you mention is very important: AFAIK, PediaPress has not been developed any more, and Tpt

created his own tool for exporting EPUBs.

The problem is that the tool is not "integrated" in MediaWiki, not wikisource use it, and sometimes it has issues for some languages.

I'd be the first to be happy if that tool could be more widespread.
