Well, I believe they are true diacritics, but I am no expert on ancient portuguese. You might find some information on: <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reforms_of_Portuguese_orthography">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reforms_of_Portuguese_orthography</a> although it seems to be more centered at the reforms during the 20th century.<br>

</div>Thanks for suggestion. I just rendered an ancient Italian work, and I found the same &quot;diacritics&quot; that really are &quot;tituli&quot;, t.i. Middle Age common abbreviations. But... are they <b>all</b> tituli or are some of them real diacritics? <br>


<br>My shortcut has been, to consider all &quot;tituli&quot;, implying that - as normally works in paleography - they can be solved converting them into a n or a m following the vocal with them; but... how many mistake I did? No matter, I know that there&#39;s no one wiki user that can do the &quot;perfect work&quot;, someone will fix my mistakes... I only hope that they are not too many. :-( <br>
