Yesterday, the Dutch Wikipedia sent out a press release to mention the fact that it reached it 10,000th article. It seems to have been a great success. An article has appeared on the website of the largest Dutch newspaper, and I myself have given two interviews for the radio. One has been aired an hour ago, the other tomorrow.
Page views of the main page have increased about tenfold today, and the regulars had their hands full in welcoming and otherwise dealing with new people today.
Congratulations! Now if somebody would volunteer to translate the Wikimedia press release into Dutch then that would be wonderful. ;)
At the very least we need translations for all the Wikipedia versions that have more than 10,000 articles (since each of these are going to be mentioned specifically in the press release).
We still need people to volunteer to translate the press release into; German, Polish, Swedish, Danish, and Dutch. Of course all other languages are also encouraged to translate this press release and send it to their own language news services after we finally reach 300,000 articles.
This, IMO, should be a our first truly international press release.
