Several people, including myself, have been very interested in seeing a running total of our PayPal donations (maybe even creating an automatically updated bar with a $6,000 goal line). This isn't that important right now, but when our month long fundraising drive "officially" starts in concert with distribution of our press release, I think it would be very important to have a running tally (even if it is updated by hand only once a day).
And if we hit the $6,000 figure real quick, we could always find another thing to shoot for (I'm sure the developers can think of something - such as maybe hiring a PHP/MySQL expert to audit MediaWiki's code and suggest/implement optimization changes).

Actually, if the mark of 6,000 USD is reached that quickly, I think it would be better to start saving up for the next wave of server upgrades - given Wikipedia's growth, they will be necessary pretty soon again already.
