This means you need to subscribe to the list.

This means you need to subscribe to the list.

We should send people a different response to such posts. Posts my nonmembers are *not* moderated; they disappear down a black hole. Nonmembers that submit reasonable posts will expect to be published, and they'll be surprised and discouraged that their posts never appear. -- Toby

So if I accidentally send a post from the wrong From: address and it gets sent to you for moderation, then you ignore it? I'd much rather that you posted it! -- Toby

Kind of annoying, yes... If you think you might do this on a regular basis, you can sign up the other address to the list and put set it to not receive messages from the list. There's probably a better way to handle this stuff... Anyway, I've changed the address listed in the "can't open database" error message to the new 'wikidown chez bomis.com' alias, which should forward to all the people with a login account on the server (and thus who might have a chance at diagnosing and repairing the problem). -- brion vibber (brion @ pobox.com)

In a perfect world, that would be the best thing. But there's no time for that. Instead, the message should say: "Hey, you sent them from an unsubscribed address, so it's going straight into a blackhole never to be seen again." Alternatively, someone could volunteer to be the moderator for the list. (The list is not moderated, mind you, it's just that the moderator has the power to take care of this kind of administrivia.) --Jimbo

I am willing to do that for Intlwiki-l and mayby wikitech-l. Not for wikipedia-l. I do it now for wikiNL-l, not that there is not much traffic... Giskart

As long as no one expects a policy other than "that which is not overt spam is allowed", I'd be happy to help handle the "moderation" of wikipedia-l and/or wikitech-l.

O.k., I sent him the password. I suppose more than one person could do this. The list is UNMODERATED and will remain so. Being a moderator only means that you get annoying emails all the time, and have the power to help people. --Jimbo

What level of traffic are we talking about? (Of moderable posts, that is.) -- Toby PS: I believe that the last post of mine to be lost, sometime during the Enciclopedia Libre negotiations, included my saying nice things about your character. So you see, Jimmy, you want these things posted! ^_^
