Genome from Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia |
||||||
In biology, genome refers to the complete set of all an organism's genes. To the extent that the organism's genes and the complete set of its [chromosomal dna]? can be considered the same thing, genome can also refer to the entire sequence of an organism's chromosomal dna. Note that most organisms more complex than a virus carry some genes outside their chromosomes; for example, bacteria carry plasmids and eukaryotes have genes in their mitochondria (and chloroplasts, in the case of plants). The Human Genome Project aims to give an entire map of the human genome. |
