Nah, it would never work. ;)
When I say "networks" and "connections" I mean something that
supports
viewing actual networks and connection graphs or quickly aggregated
data from some natural subnetwork, like "all people within 2
connections from me" or "everyone working with james on a project who
is also working with me on a project" ; or an automatic list of
"everyone who shares these hobbies/locations" rather than having to
manually update and search a hundred different lists when you want to
find that information.
