Dear Sushant and other Gujarati wikipedians,
As you all are aware Wikisource is a great a wiki project for most indic languages. Some Indic wiki communities (for example: Malayalam, Bengali ) are already having very active wiki source projects.
It is important that a wikisource project is opened for Gujarati also very soon. But voting on the request page won't help much since language committee is already aware that Gujarati is eligible for wikisource project. According to
WMF language committee, to approve additional wiki projects for eligible languages we need to fulfill certain criteria. Following are they:
- Have an activity community for Gujarati wikisource in the old Wikisource site મુખપૃષ્ઠ:ગુજરાતી
- Complete the translation of most-used MediaWiki messages (view untranslated);
- Complete the translation of all MediaWiki messages (view untranslated);
- Complete the translation of main extensions used by Wikimedia Foundation wikis (view untranslated).
- Complete the translation of Collection extension for Wikisource and Wikibooks (view untranslated) and
- Complete the translation of ProofreadPage extension for Wikisource (view untranslated).
We already have couple of Gujarati source texts
in old wikisource site. Please continue adding more source texts on that site since that will keep the interested members together. Along with that please translate the mediawiki messages in
Translate wiki. I found that for Gujarati we have around 2000 untranslated messages. Keep have some plan to finish these messages within some time frame since that will speed up the creation of Gujarati wikisource.
Please let me know in case you require any help regarding this.
