Hi,
If you are a Wikinews reporter in any language who has done original reporting any time in the past two years, we would like you to complete a survey at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1kvLJYT8tKFmOoK-7mb8yWDc9yojT8b2nEElgwepCQhc... the costs of doing original reporting. Even if you have done original reporting and spent no money directly, we would like you to report this. This research is being done by people affiliated with The Wikinewsie Group ( http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/The_Wikinewsie_Group ) to assess the level of current funding going into Wikinews original reporting, who is paying for it and what the outcomes for the money spent are. We hope to be able to use this information to better assist reporters in doing original reporting, finding funding through external grants to support it, and to better understand the inherent value in original news reporting.
To original reporters, thank you for taking the time to answer the survey. If you have question about the research, please get in touch with me and I will be happy to discuss it.
Sincerely, Laura Hale
Thanks for these kind of interest, I am a bit surprised, but positively. This is first time that somebody bring up this to some level of interest. I wish that I can do more reporting but unfortunately I even have no accreditation and everything come out even more expensive. Let say when I contacted Rogers Cup media representative I got rejected because of Wikinews low importance compare to other medias. Sincerely László Varga

Hopefully, sometime in the near future, we can get this to change. We have a fair amount of original sport reporting going on in different languages. This can be used to get media credentials to some events. The more you do, the more others invite you to do. If you cannot do the top level sport, doing original reporting on the next level down or two levels down can open doors. Sport reporting is often about who you know to give you access.
Once The Wikinewsie Group is in place, hopefully we will also better be able to get access to funding to enable people to do more original reporting. It is why increasing and unifying standards across projects, and why translating from one language to another quickly is important. (Serbian to Esperanto or Serbian to Tamil or Greek to Serbian or Serbian to Spanish. It does not need to be everything to English to demonstrate value.)
Sincerely, Laura Hale
