I believe I'm a bit late to the party, but it's better late than never to point out my comments :P

'OpenGlobe' has an incredibly friendly interface, and I liked it. I haven't read anything there (as of yet) but Dendodge's userpage. I don't believe OpenGlobe will, at least for a good few years, 'overtake' Wikinews.

Let's be honest, Wikinews is part of Wikimedia, and WN is, still, popular because of Wikipedia and not because of its own merit. It's not like our articles are featured on X website or whatever, people sometimes simply rob some articles or pictures and nothing else; nobody gives nor has ever given a shit about wiki (user-generated and supposedly reliable) news nor Wikinews.

Wikinews has been greatly affected by the low numbers of active users during its existence, something very necessary for its reviewing process, amid other things. Even myself (even though --excuse me the redundancy of the word "even"-- I used to be reaaaaaally active for more than a year) lost interest in the project, seriously.

Gotta wish the best of luck to the new project, who knows if it will be luckier than Wikinews?

Sincerely,

Diego Grez

Subject: [Wikinews-l] We've been forked! [fwd from foundation-l]

Tempodivalse and some other folks have started a fork of Wikinews.
Thought I'd forward since it may be of interest to some folks.

Personally I'm interested to see where this goes and if they have
success. At the end of the day, the more free content material that
exists in the world the better, regardless of where it is created.

Cheers.

> At least nine users have pledged to support this fork, and several others (including non-WN Wikimedians) are interested - more than there are active remaining Wikinews contributors.
