When Fonts and encoding was checked, I found that Serif was set to Times New Roman, Sans Serif to Arial, and fixed width to Courier New. Neither Anjali, nor Meera was set there. Coming back to the point, in Wikipedia language settings, I changed from system font to Meera. The text was illegible and tiny. I had to zoom it to 125% to read properly. When did that, leading space were too high. I downloaded Meera again from SMC wiki, and replaced the existing Meera. Then I reverted wikipedia settings, back to system font without changing anything in Chrome. Resultant page attached herewith as wikipic1.jpg. It is still, Anjali. Where is the forcing component, here? 

Wait. I kept the above paragraph and the first attachment as draft, logged out from wikipedia and rebooted the system to check whether there is any change. The font changed to Meera without my intervention. So what I infer is that, the code might have been changed to look for the version of the font first before deciding whether to display Meera when it is available, and to go for Anjali, if the Meera is old. I am not sure though. Anyway, that is not the main contention here, but the font size. I have to admit that, the font, though legible was still tiny in size. Attaching the page as wikipic2.jpg. I then zoomed the page to 125% and found that this was the preferred size, I would allow my pages to look like. The screenshot is attached as wikipic3.jpg. The point, I have to stress is that, in windows, the hinting of Meera is not up to the mark, when left without any CSS control. It is but the most beautiful font, I have come across in any Linux systems. Comparing it with Comic Sans is a far stretch. I would also love to see a New Lipi font in webfonts to be selected by the user. Even an anonymous user should be allowed to select his/her preference. 

Even then, I do not get the point behind this venomous attack on ULS which is not just about web-fonts and IMEs, but a lot more functionality including interwiki links. When you roll out a new feature, it is natural to have bugs, to which, when properly reported, the developers are reacting in a war-foot mode. It is to be discounted that there are only three developers for the more than three cents of languages in wiki environment. Give them some fresh air to breath, without clogging the entire surroundings with pure hatred.
