Dear CC SA Community,
Please see the below message from Shanna Hollich regarding the availability of scholarships for the CC certificate course. There are two courses - one for educators and one for librarians - but the curriculum is the same for both for the majority of the course, only the last few weeks do the courses diverge, as the foundation is critical to both. It is highly recommended for anyone who wants to enhance their expertise relating to how the CC License Suite works, how it relates to Copyright, how to use - and re-use - the licenses, and so on. Those of us in South Africa who have done the course, Paul West, Derek Moore, myself, inter alia - have found it incredibly valuable. The course is over a three-month period, with many assignments which are highly creative, a curriculum that cycles through the most important facets of the CC License Suite, and a huge and necessary focus on application - it is very much geared towards praxis - that by the end you will be comfortable with both finding (in itself a very useful part of the course), using, and re-using the CC licenses. Also, that not all of the licenses satisfy the criteria to be an Open Educational Resource, and so on and so forth.
We really do recommend that you get these credentials under your belt, and with scholarships available, now is as good a time as any to apply. Since part of the application is about how you would give back to the community, we can certainly help you if you are interested in applying, with this - if you do not have a ready-made academic community for instance to hand.
So please, we do urge that you consider applying for one of the scholarships and will help you if needed.
Thank you, Kathryn & Paul

Dear CC community,
As mentioned earlier this year, we are again opening applications for CC Certificate course scholarships.
Creative Commons intends to make the CC Certificate courses available to as many people as possible. We currently have funds to cover 15 partial scholarships for the 2025 CC Certificate courses for (1) Educators and (2) Academic Librarians, starting on 29 September. The scholarships will cover 80% of our course registration, and scholarship recipients will be responsible for paying USD $100. Learn more about our CC Certificate courses https://creativecommons.org/about/cc-certificate-program/.
How this works:
1.
We invite you all to apply for a scholarship for either the (1) CC Certificate for Educators or the (2) CC Certificate for Academic Librarians. Applications are due by 30 June. 1.
Apply today using this Google form https://forms.gle/vH5p2D7NPN6snPLt5. 2.
CC community members’ scholarship applications that demonstrate a thoughtful plan to share learning with the members’ communities will be prioritized. We will also prioritize applications from countries and territories that are typically underrepresented, outside of North America and Western Europe (more details on the form). 3.
We invite CC community members to help us determine which applications to accept. Please stay tuned after the scholarship applications close: we will share an anonymized voting sheet, directions for voting, and an invitation for community members to review applications in the middle of July. 4.
All applicants will be notified of their status no later than 31 July. Applicants will have until 15 September to complete their registration for the course.
We are excited to continue expanding access to the Certificate in this way, and we hope to continue to do so in the future, through scholarships and collaborative partnerships to help further open education.
Thank you,
-Shanna

Hello Douglas
Thanks for this information. Can I thoroughly recommend the CC course to fellow Wikipedians, librarians and educators? I've got some examples that I used for my assignments. If anyone wants to see what I did, I'm happy to share at this Weekend's Meetup in Joburg. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Meetup_SA .
I have also started the practice of separating my text and making my presentations mainly visual (see the file on my sandpit https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Derek_J_Moore/curate ) The separation of presentation and audio means that you can use the presentation and use your own language to narrate.
And while we are speaking about Academic matters, I have been categorising Academic libraries. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Academic_libraries_in_South_Africa . The Eastern Cape leads with three academic libraries. Western Cape is a bit thin on the ground. Tukkies outshine UJ and Wits. Thus far non of the Universities that I did a SWiP workshop's with, have applied their learning to their libraries.
Kind Regards Derek
PS Want to also put the meetup banner on the top of your page See https://youtu.be/KthX-EzaK6M https://youtu.be/KthX-EzaK6M
