Hello everyone,

Please see below for an invitation to a Wikimedia ZA event in Cape Town on
the 2 November.  We will be co-hosting an event with UCT's d-school of
design to encourage more members of the design community to contribute to
Wikipedia.  If you are interested in joining us then it will take place
immediately after the 21 Cape Town meetup happening on the same day.  I am
happy to take a few Wikimedians with me or you can meet me at Montebello
Design centre.  Please let me know if you want to join us so I can RSVP.
If you are an experienced Wikipedia editor who wants to volunteer to help
out on the day then just let me know.

Meet under the trees for a welcome drink

Tessa Graaff, managing director of Montebello Design Centre, will lead an
informative walkabout of the centre on Saturday 2nd November 2019 at
11:00.  She will talk about Montebello’s fascinating history and vision “to
nurture dreams to grow creative solutions from Africa”.

Montebello is located in Newlands and is the result of a financial and
property bequest by Cecil Michaelis.  The project is situated in the farm
buildings of the historic site of Montebello. These buildings and land have
a colourful history, being the birth place of Ohlssons Brewery and
Continental China.  Today, Montebello is home to a broad spectrum of
designers, innovators, artists and crafters.  An outreach project runs as
part of Montebello Design Centre's mission to promote craft and design.

Studios and workshops will be open to share stories of their creative and
innovative work covering all aspects of design.

D Drinks Wikipedia Workshop
Saturday 2nd November at 2 - 5pm
No charge - limited to 20 participants
Drinks and snacks will be served

Learn how to participate in the largest free knowledge project in the world
by joining the community that has built the seventh most visited website on
the internet.  Wikipedia is a free online encyclopaedia created by
volunteers and covering all areas of knowledge.  Discover how you can
participate by contributing to this body of free knowledge for the
betterment of everyone in the world.  Whether that is expanding information
on topics that you are passionate about or adding creative content that
will better inform thousands of people.  All types of knowledge and all
types of people are welcome to join.  This workshop will be done in a
relaxed atmosphere and in a conversational manner.

*Participants will learn:*
•    How Wikipedia, the 7th most visited website on the internet and
largest repository of free knowledge in the world works;
•    How to best contribute design knowledge to Wikipedia and why designers
are important to the free knowledge movement;
•    Edit Wikipedia;
•    Contribute to Wikimedia Commons (the largest repository of Creative
Commons multimedia content in the world); and
•    Introduction to the Creative Commons copyright license.

There will also be a questions and answers segment on how Wikipedia works.

All participants must have internet access and must create a username
before the event.
