Hi all,
I'll still post a more complete report, but my brief feedback on the train-the-trainer session for librarians is as follows:
The participants were eager and collaborative, and about as well prepared as I expected: most had done at least some of the pre-course exercises; a few had done them all, and a few had not doone them. Their level of computer literacy was somewhat varied, but good enough in all cases to follow the material.
The venue was good, and on request, they provided an effective PA system for day 2. Internet was dodgy on day 1, and really a bit too slow on day 2, so for future events, we should probably increase the data capacity. The hands-on work was successful despite this:
All the participants edited their user pages and added language tags. All or almost all users edited a non-English Wikipedia page. All users installed the citation tool on their user preferences, and except those who only had IE6 (ITOCA: maybe you should install Firefox on those laptops ;-D), all managed to autofill and post a citation.
All users were given kiwix and the Schools Wikipedia Collection either directly onto their computers, or on DVD, and all the users either installed it, or watched their neighbour install it if they did not have admin access on their computer.
Informal feedback from the participants was positive, but I've also asked them to provide anonymous feedback via ITOCA.
Kind regards,
David
I forgot some points in my email from yesterday:
I also included my presentation in the materials that the attendees got, so that they can give similar talks to their constituents, and also included the two open content videos. ("Share your knowledge: why", and "Share your knowledge: how"). Also covered in the training was how to get into contact with GLAM, especially Wiki Loves Libraries. (Thanks for the tips, Isla!) Two of the attendees are actively involved in digitisation of documents, and would like to get involved with GLAM. I'm still struggling to find time to finish report and check for messages from attendees, due to work pressures, but should get some time this weekend.
Kind regards,
Hi, everyone.
David, thanks for this preliminary report. I'm thrilled to hear it went well, and I look forward to more details.
Blessing: could you describe the post-training plan and timeline?
Thanks,
Asaf
