Dear Wikimedia South Africa Community,
We are thrilled to share some fantastic news with you all!
Our very own Twin Mosia and Derek Moore have been selected for the
Wikipedian-in-Residence
(WiR) Fellowships to Advance Gender Equity, LGBTQ+ Rights, and Democracy in
Southern Africa
This is a remarkable achievement and a testament to their dedication,
technical skills, and the impact they’ve made within the community.
The African Wikipedians-in-Residence programme seeks to strengthen
ecosystem defense by addressing gender disparities, advocating for LGBTQ+
rights, and closing content gaps on xenophobic practices in South Africa,
ensuring a more inclusive and informed digital space in Southern Africa and
its neighboring countries.
Why This Matters
-
Skill Growth: They will gain experience in data science, digital
security, and open-source development.
-
Community Impact: Their participation enables focus on addressing Gender
disparity, advocating for LGBTQ+ rights and closing the content gaps on
Xenophobic practices in South Africa and neighbouring countries
-
Knowledge Transfer: We look forward to the insights and innovations they
will bring back to our community projects.
"Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day-in and day-out."
Their hard work editing in the wiki-world has paid off!
Please join us in giving them a massive digital round of applause.
Congratulations, Twin and Derek! We look forward to the impact you will be
creating in these areas.
Warm regards,
Wikimedia South Africa
