Hello fellow WALRUSes!

I have 3 questions for everyone who hosted a local Wikipedia day event, and I thought it might be a fun group sharing experience if people shared their experiences on this thread:

1. How was attendance?
- About how many people came?  How did it compare to your past events?  Who came, were they from nearby or from farther away, and how was the mix of experienced editors and new participants?
About 12 people. This was my first meetup in Gainesville FL [1], but my previous meetups in Colorado have tended to have 3-5 people attending, so it was nice to have so many! We had five established Wikipedians and three novice editors, plus a bunch of curious UF students who stopped by and edited or started their first articles (or got bored after a few minutes and left). Everybody was from the area, so I was a bit disappointed we didn't get editors from further afield.

2. What was exciting?
- What did you do for the first time at a wiki event?  What amazing thing happened?  Who spoke or made a presentation that really impressed you?  What unexpected connection did you make?
This was my first meetup in Gainesville and my first in a very long time, so it was just nice to meet other Wikipedians and talk about Wikipedia conflict-of-interest issues and whatnot!

3. What next?
- What would you do differently next year?
I also took some casual photos that I ended up being unable to use for privacy reasons. I'll remember to take a proper group photo next time!

What other potential plans do you have locally, that may have sprouted or solidified from everyone coming together for Wikipedia Day?
As part of organizing this meetup, I consolidated the meetup pages in my area [2]. There seems to be an active group in Tampa [3], whose meetups I'd like to attend sometime, but I'm also keeping an eye on organizing a meetup in Jacksonville, Orlando or St Augustine, just to find the Wikipedians there. Let's see!

OK, and a bonus question:

4. How was the cake?
- What flavors did you get?
User:Isarra made a chocolate cake that fell apart slightly and then was glued back together with vast quantities of cream cheese icing and frosting.

Was it too dry, or just right?
Maybe a little dry, but the frosting made up for that with wet sweetness. The taste got increasing interesting the longer it was refrigerated.

Did everyone get a slice, did everyone get two slices?
Half the cake was consumed. I think most editors stuck to one slice, but as it was a large, rich cake, that was understandable.

Would you like to get more cake next time?
No, I think we pretty much nailed it this time.

Would you like to get more cake today?
Yes.

Can you recommend a good 24 hour baker?
Unfortunately, no.

How did you decorate it, and what made your cake special through the words or image glazed on it?
User:Isarra drew the Wikipedia logo on it [4]. What made it special was that it was a Wikipedia Day cake!

Also, I heartily encourage everyone to upload your Wikipedia Day cake and other event photos here, and in appropriate subcategories:

Done! Thanks, Pharos!
