Hi folks!
Just a wee reminder that we have x2 Sandbox Sessions coming up before the end of the year. These events are held on Zoom, register using your Wiki account, and we'll send the link the day before the event.
- *WikiSource Transcribe-a-thon* - Thursday 20th November, 6pm-8pm UTC. Led by Dr Martin Poulter, this event will introduce Wikisource: a community that is building a huge library of freely available texts. Together we will transcribe a pamphlet or paper and explore how 1) contributing to Wikisource can be a rewarding hobby and 2) how transcribe-a-thon events can be part of a campaign to highlight kinds of literature and knowledge. *Register for this event. https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Event:WMUK_Sandbox_Sessions/Wikisource_Transcribe-a-thon_20.11.25*
- *Wikimedia projects and smell-related content: ideas on where, how, and why to add it** - *Wednesday 10th December, 6pm-7.30pm UTC. Led by Lucy Moore, this will be a Seasonal Sandbox Session to explore how smell-related information can enrich Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata! The session will involve a short introduction to why olfactory experiences are essential for human knowledge, as well as demonstrations of how to add scent and smell to Wikidata, and ways to incorporate it into Wikimedia Commons. The session also includes open time for editing, using either a suggested list or your own ideas. Incorporating smell-related data is not widely used across projects yet, so there’s lots of potential for new ideas and contributions. *Register for this event. https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Event:WMUK_Sandbox_Sessions/Wikimedia_projects_and_smell-related_content_10.12.25*
We've got one more Sandbox Session to come in this programme, which will take place in January 2026! More on that soon...
You can find out more about all of the sessions, and see recordings of previous sessions, on our website here: https://wikimedia.org.uk/2025/08/community-sandbox-events/
All the best, Sara
