Dear all
This morning, emails have been sent to all current members of Wikimedia UK
regarding our upcoming AGM, which will take place on Saturday 13th July 2019
at the Watershed <https://www.watershed.co.uk/about-us> on the riverside in
Bristol. This is an important annual opportunity for members and other
stakeholders to meet staff and trustees of the charity, network with other
Wikimedians, find out more about our work and have your say in the way the
charity is run and who is on the board - so please put the date in your
diary and sign up here
<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wikimedia-uk-2019-agm-tickets-62303110280>.
Volunteers who aren't members are also welcome at this event, although we
would encourage you to become a member
<https://donate.wikimedia.org.uk/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=4>(for
only £5 a year) to enable you to participate fully in the day. If you
believe that you are a member but did not receive a message this morning,
please email membership(a)wikimedia.org.uk; although do be aware that Katie
(who manages this email address and membership enquiries) is on leave until
next Thursday so won't be able to respond immediately.
About the day
The day will start at 11am with a varied and interesting programme of talks
and workshops, plus the presentation of the UK Wikimedian of the Year
awards. This year, for the first time, we will also be presenting our
inaugural Honorary Memberships. We would love to hear from members of our
community and beyond in our lightning talks session, and details of how to
sign up for that will be circulated in June. We will also be looking for
nominations for the different categories in our awards, which recognise
people and institutions that have made a particularly significant
contribution to Wikimedia over the past year.
We are currently exploring different speaker and workshop ideas so if you
have any suggestions or requests, do feel free to get in touch.
AGM and elections
The Annual General Meeting itself will be held during the afternoon and
will include reports from the Chair, Treasurer and Chief Executive,
questions on these reports or other relevant issues, the election for
trustees of the Wikimedia UK board as well as voting on resolutions.
There are five trustee vacancies at this year’s AGM, with three existing
trustees likely to stand again. We are particularly keen to have more
people from the Wikimedia community on the board so please do consider
standing for these elections. We will share more details of how to do so
next month, but in the meantime you can find out more about the Wikimedia
UK board here <https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Board>.
Board and Members Resolutions
The board is proposing a number of ordinary resolutions and one special
resolution at this year’s AGM, which are on the wiki pages about the event
here <https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/2019_Annual_General_Meeting/Resolutions>.
Members are also entitled to propose resolutions for consideration at the
AGM. Any member who wishes to do so must let us know, with a copy of the
suggested text, by Friday 7th June at the latest. The suggested text may
either be sent by email to the charity at info(a)wikimedia.org.uk or may be
posted online at
https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/2019_Annual_General_Meeting/Resolutions
Register your attendance
With such a great spot on the Bristol harbourside, and a full schedule of
discussions, workshops and presentations, we’re very much hoping that you
will join us for the full day and participate in shaping the UK chapter for
the global Wikimedia movement.
Anyone who wants to attend must register in advance, so please sign up on
the Eventbrite page here
<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wikimedia-uk-2019-agm-tickets-62303110280>.
(Please note that you must register for the AGM on eventbrite rather than
on wiki as we need your full name, not Wikimedia user name, in order to
cross-reference with our members database. If you would prefer, you can
email us to confirm your attendance).
If you have any questions or more general comments, please do get in touch
with me or Katie Crampton - who will be leading on the logistics for the
day - on the membership email on our office number 020 3372 0761.
Very best wishes
Lucy
