Hi there folks!
Delighted to announce that the first of our *Sandbox Sessions* will take place on Saturday 30th August, 5pm UK time (ie, UTC+1)
*Using Duplicity: Create Missing Wikidata Items from Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Event:WMUK_Sandbox_Sessions/Using_Duplicity_30.08.2025* will be run by Josef Anthony, a Wikimedia volunteer and contributor with experience in Wikidata, Wikipedia, and technical projects within the Wikimedia movement. Josef recently led the Wikidata project Revitalising UK History https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Revitalizing_UK_History/Project_Report, supported by a Wikimedia UK volunteer grant.
This one hour session will introduce the Wikidata tool Wikidata:Duplicity https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Duplicity, which helps identify Wikipedia articles that do not have a Wikidata item, and match them to an existing item or create a new one.
The session will be hands-on and beginner-friendly, with time to explore the tool together and make real contributions. It’s ideal for editors who are curious about Wikidata but unsure where to start, or for anyone who wants to improve Wikidata coverage using content that already exists in English Wikipedia.
The event will be held on Zoom, and you can sign up using your Wikimedia account here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Event:WMUK_Sandbox_Sessions/Using_Duplicity_30.08.2025 Please do feel free to share this with anyone you feel might be interested!
All the best, Sara
Hi Sara
Looks good, hope you are well and had a good weekend. Wikimania should be interesting.
Did I miss a reply to the sandbox session I proposed... maybe I did it wrong. Were there a lot?
The session with the Church of Scotland went well. They are to consider changing their licensing.
Stuart was there from the SMP and very helpful. Last time we spoke you said I was being impatient over the progress at getting better access to their Flickr account. etc... but that was some time ago. Where do you think we stand? Are we waiting on them?
cheers Roger

Hi Roger,
Sandbox sessions - I checked the submission form again in case I'd missed yours, but didn't see anything I'm afraid...
As I said before, I do think we just need to be patient with the SMP group, as they're new to this and don't have a lot of capacity in terms of tagging and sorting the images (they're just on a phone, not in an archive of any kind) - I'll reply off list :)
All the best, Sara
