Hi all,
For those who don't know me, I'm Sam (User:TheresNoTime https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:TheresNoTime ). I’m a software developer from the south of the UK, and I’ve been on Wikimedia projects since 2008-ish.
I'm also an admin on your wiki, from when I implemented some edit filters to combat spam in 2017.
I popped in today and noticed that the extension seems to have been removed (https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Special:Version), and that you’re running a version of MediaWiki which has recently gone “end-of-life https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_1.31 ”.
I guessed that your infrastructure would be logged somewhere (likely at https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/IT_Development), but it seems a lot has either moved or is down...?
* https://scm.wikimedia.org.uk * https://rt.wikimedia.org.uk * https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org.uk * https://monitor.wikimedia.org.uk * https://moodle.wikimedia.org.uk * etc.
It doesn’t appear (https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/search/query/TWI5JrhUTA3W/) as though you have a phabricator project.
Is there any more up to date information available, and/or is there anything I can do to help? 😊
Kind regards,
Sam

Hi Sam,
Natasha Iles has recently been leading some working looking at the Wikimedia UK wiki and may be able to provide some further information.

Hi Sam
Many thanks for flagging up these issues. These changes may be connected to our new website but I'm not entirely sure. The two colleagues who are likely to know more about this are both unavailable today, but I will follow this up with them tomorrow.
All best Lucy

4 weeks; Still reads version 1.31.0. Which presumably means you also missed the 16 security and maintenance patches on this version. I understand that you might prefer a gentle nudge but this is very much the point where you fix it now or admit you can't maintain it and pull it.
Hi Geni (and all)
We have moved to 1.35.4 (the latest LTS version) this evening.
I think it's fair to say that the old site was the result of many years of incremental upgrades and changes which were making it difficult to maintain and do major or minor updates in the usual way. Upgrades to PHP also had the potential to affect Wordpress, so that needed to be evaluated. Our IT contractor has therefore created a new site with a fresh configuration and set of extensions, which can be updated as needed.
I understand the frustration that has been expressed over the past few weeks about Wikimedia UK's IT infrastructure. This year much of our focus (including time, energy and development budget) has been spent on creating and launching our new public-facing Wordpress-based website, which is here https://wikimedia.org.uk/. I'm sorry if that has meant less attention has been given to maintaining the wiki site. I do appreciate the community drawing attention to some of these issues, and your interest in ensuring that our IT is fit for purpose.
Best wishes Lucy

Thank you for the update, and thanks to all the staff involved in the software migration.
