Atlanta has a page set up for people to coordinate their sponsorship contact (see http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2008/Bids/Atlanta/Sponsorships), which looks like a good idea to me, as it would avoid twenty different people contacting the same organisation
That's a very good point. How about somebody create a /Coordination subpage which has {{Special:Prefixindex/Wikimania 2008/Bids/London/}} on it? I would remind viewers I am using a mobile phone and stuff like that is beyond the realms of capability :)

Made as per your suggestion, though not sure I understand what {{Special:Prefixindex/Wikimania 2008/Bids/London/}} is actually supposed to do
I thought the syntax was something like that. Prefixindex lists all subpages after what you give it. I believe it to be includeable but maybe I got the syntax wrong, maybe play around a bit with it? Take a look at for example my userpage - en:User:Gary Kirk near the bottom - The newest page on Wikipedia is... section. Regards

Have a look at the page in between the {{}}. That's the prefixindex, and when used as a template, they'll appear nice and neat on the page.

Ok I get it now, cos there was only the one subpage, I didn't get what it did.
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2008/Bids/London/Coordination
I've also fleshed out the page with a bit of a framework and some of the tasks mentioned already, as well as a list of people willing to help, though only included myself as didn't want to presume.
I have been told by UCL that it shouldn't be a problem having it there ie availability is not a problem - at this stage. If someone were to propose dates and add them where it says on the main bid page I could get back to UCL and get it confirmed.

I have added the dates I proposed earlier to the bid page http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2008/Bids/London. That's 2-6 August - broken down into 2-3 for hacking days (not all rooms required), and 4-6 for the main conference. Please change if you prefer other dates.

Personally I have no preference but I know one of the jury's birthday falls during that time frame, and it is Jimmy's birthday on the 7th, so with jetlag and the like they may not be too thrilled by that :) - not enough to affect their decisions on the jury, but, you know, it doesn't help us :). Or is this a non-issue?

Meh. He might give it a miss next year =)
clashing with Jimmy's birthday doesn't seem to have adversely affected any of the previous winning bids Frankfurt: 4 Aug - 8 Aug Boston: 4 Aug - 6 Aug Taipei: 3 Aug - 5 Aug
my guess is he enjoys a piss-up with his wiki-minions ;)

Well he can hardly say 'Excuse me, I'd like to be with my family on my birthday, Wikimania must move!' because although he is founder and god-king, that would make him sound, though within his rights to say, slightly arrogant, which I'm sure he isn't. When I met him he indicated we should follow others down the stairs out of the pub - I nearly fell down them. I was rather excited :P.

Yes, traditionally I celebrate my birthday at Wikimania, no matter when the actual date might be. (Sources differ, ha ha.)

So, like the Queen of England, both an official and a real birthday?

Birthdays and Wikimania go very nicely together. :-) Jimmy and Angela have celebrated theirs with assorted Wikimaniacs over the three years, and I celebrated mine with some late stragglers this year!

I've also fleshed out the page with a bit of a framework and some of the tasks mentioned already, as well as a list of people willing to help, though only included myself as didn't want to presume.
The SubpageList extension also does this; one whacks a <subpagelist /> tag on a page, and there appears a nice little list of all subpages of the current page.
Not so helpful for Wikimedia, of course, where it's not installed. :(
