The 100th London Wikimeet took place at Penderel's Oak, and was a very pleasant event. Lucy Compton-Reid was there, and I saw at least one Trustee (and some staff).
The first was on 5th June 2004.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/London_1
The next will be meeting number 101 with caek, since Wikipedia is 15 Years Young!
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meetup/London/101
I think we managed to confuse the staff with the continuous food orders.
Somebody had "Old Growler" (from Nethergate)... each to their own!

Hi all,
I see that WMUK is also planning to organise an additional 15th Birthday celebration https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_15/Events/London in London, but it is not clear whether this will be on the Friday or the Saturday.
I am not sure if this was discussed at the meetup last Sunday - there were quite a lot of people there!
all the best

The 10th birthday saw a party thrown by Jimmy Wales; and I was involved in the invitation list for that. So I was wondering who might be invited. In 2011 Cherie Blair came, and Bamber Gascoigne was invited as a member; he said pleasant things about WP, which got onto Radio 4. John Julius Norwich, another historian has just defended WP in the letters to The Times. Tom Watson the politician is said to be sympathetic.
Thinking aloud here, obviously. Who might be in charge of the event?
Charles
Myself and Stuart Prior are organising things, but at present nothing is confirmed. There should be an update before Christmas, we'll email this list to let people know what's happening! On 18 Dec 2015 10:23, "Charles Matthews" charles.r.matthews@ntlworld.com wrote:

Thanks for that, Richard
Please bear in mind that the birthday celebrations are already scheduled for the 101st London Meetup https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meetup/London/101 and hopefully the people attending the WMUK Skills Development Training 2016 https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/WMUK_Skills_Development_Training_2016 . will be able to stay on for that.
Also clarification about the day would be helpful, as some of us may be planning to attend the Oxford event on Friday 15th January https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_15/Events/Oxford,_United_Kingdom .

Looks like the closing date for registering interest was 17th December. First I have heard of this WMUK_Skills_Development_Training_2016.

It was mentioned on Twitter, though that hardly reaches all. Charles
Sorry you didn't hear about the training Gordo - we did promote it via social media and our newsletter, and all the places for this pilot course are now full. We'd be happy to register interest now for any future sessions though - if you want to email Karla on karla.marte@wikimedia.org.uk. We can also add you to the waiting list for one or both days in case there are drop outs before 8th/9th January.
Also, on the subject of the 15th anniversary, we are hoping to hold a little thank you party for volunteers, members etc on the evening of Saturday 16th January, however it's dependent on us securing a venue this side of Christmas really (one of our volunteers is hopefully lending us a space but this needs to be confirmed).
All best Lucy

Thanks. I tend to rely on this email list, and I must admit I don't always read the newsletter in full..... my bad as they say.

You're not the only one, Gordo - I don't follow WMUK's wiki closely any more and it was only mentioned as a "by the way" at the very bottom of the newsletter (a newsletter some people have mentioned not receiving). It would be nice to see the chapter make more use of this list to engage with the community. Harry Mitchellhttp://enwp.org/User:HJ Phone: +44 (0) 7507 536971 Skype: harry_j_mitchell

Hi all,
Having heard no more about this, whether on this list or on-wiki https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_15/Events/London , should we yet conclude that there will be no additional event aside from the London meetup event https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meetup/London/101 , (Sunday, 10th January) the Aberystwyth event https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Expert_outreach/Wikipedian_in_Residence_at_the... (Friday 15th Jan) and the Oxford event https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_15/Events/Oxford,_United_Kingdom (Friday 15th Jan)?
It is good to see the Wikimedians in Residence taking a lead this year, and personally I plan to journey to Oxford itself to participate in the celebrations there.
However it would be particularly useful to know whether Wikimedia UK intends to support the London meet up Sunday event in anyway - for instance through supplying a suitably embellished cake!
Bearing in mind that there will be only a week from when the office re-opens it would be useful if this issue is addressed sooner rather than later.
I also feel that it would be useful to encourage those people attending the Project Management training session from outside London to stay on for the event, as I am sure everyone will agree that to network in the community is a key element of project management in commons-based peer production environment https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commons-based_peer_production like Wikipedia/Wikimedia.

Yes, there should be caek!
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meetup/London/101
I think there should be a Caek Coordinating Committee. This will be a sub committee of one of the existing committees.
Too many cooks?

Cakes require form 57B to be signed in triplicate, sent in, sent back, queried, lost, found, subjected to public enquiry, lost again, and finally buried in soft peat for three months and recycled as firelighters, then quarterly reports on the effectiveness on the cake. ;) Harry Mitchellhttp://enwp.org/User:HJ Phone: +44 (0) 7507 536971 Skype: harry_j_mitchell
