Hello Wikimedia UK community and Happy New Year.
Firstly, we would like to encourage people to attend the
London Meetup this weekend on Sunday 14th at Penderel's Oak pub in Holborn, which (almost) coincides with Wikipedia Day (the 17th anniversary of Wikipedia's 'birth' on 15th January). Wikimedia UK would like to celebrate this with our community and will be putting some money behind the bar for drinks.
We would like to support the community as much as possible over the coming year, so please do let us know if there are Wikimedia activities you are working on that might benefit from the charity's involvement - or apply for a small project grant
here. If anybody would like to write about their projects for the Wikimedia UK blog, please get in touch with me and I can help edit and publish your ideas.
Applications for Wikimania - taking place in Cape Town in July are open
here until 22nd January; and the Wikimedia Hackathon, to be held in May in Barcelona, is accepting applications for
scholarships until 30th January. There is also
Wiki Indaba coming up for the African and diaspora community in Tunisia in March which is still open for submissions.
The
1Lib1Ref initiative to encourage librarians to contribute to Wikipedia begins on January 15 and runs until February 3. If you you know of anybody who would like to run a library editathon, we can help support their efforts so do get in touch. Please also watch and share our
#1Lib1Ref video explaining what the initiative is about.
