Hi Andy

Yes, I'm sorry if this was not followed up with you by staff after the board meeting.

As part of our efforts to move away from such things being decided internally within the office, we have decided to ask any member seeking support to apply online for a grant (https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Grants). The grants process, and the corresponding pages, are likely to be expanded and improved but for the moment a simple application for a standard grant should work.

As you know, available funds are currently tight, but greater outreach and partnership with movements having similar goals - such as OSM - is definitely the type of activity we would like to support.

Any news, yet?

Thanks both.  As you say, OSM work certainly does fit within our aims and strategy.  As we have a board meeting next weekend anyway I’ve added an item to the agenda on resources for SotM. Obviously this is likely to be in the context of broader discussion about our resources and how we select between fundable projects.

Cheers

Simon

We've debated before whether WMUK should be supporting projects beyond the Wikimedia set of projects, and the answer has always been a resounding "yes". The WMUK constitution sets its charitable objects as "for the benefit of the public, to promote and support the widest possible public access to, use of and contribution to Open Content of an encyclopaedic or educational nature or of similar utility to the general public, in particular the Open Content supported and provided by the Wikimedia Foundation."

There's no doubt that OSM fits that bill and I hope that WMUK will find some resources to enable the attendance of some members at the Scotland conference.

I wonder whether WMUK have thought about offering support for the
later, and making expenses available to allow chapter members to
attend, in order to foster greater inter-project collaboration?
