We have a number of events happening over the Autumn/Winter period that are all now live for booking and you are more than welcome to attend any or all of them. The first event is this very Friday so please do come along to support the first editathon event for the new Wikimedia residency at SLIC (the Scottish Library & Information Council).

October

• 6 - Hidden Gems Editathon celebrating the six UNESCO world heritage sites in Scotland. Edinburgh Central Library. 1^st event of the new SLIC residency
• 10 - Ada Lovelace Day 2017 celebrating Women in STEM and the 19 British women chemists who petitioned the Chemical Society for admittance in 1904. King’s Buildings, University of Edinburgh.
• 24 - Women in Red meetup to correct systemic bias on Wikipedia. Argyle House, Edinburgh.
• 25 - Black History month editathon - directly engage in history to increase the representation of women of colour on Wikipedia. Old Medical School, University of Edinburgh.

November

• 24 - Scottish Living Artists edit-a-thon. Scotland’s vibrant art scene is not currently adequately reflected on Wikipedia, the globe’s largest information source. Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh
• 24 - Lost Literary Edinburgh - A Wikipedia edit-a-thon creating and improving pages for neglected or overlooked authors in Edinburgh’s long literary history. Part of the Being Human festival. 50 George Square, Edinburgh

Now that September has come to an end, we have also now accumulated a record breaking 2100 newly uploaded images of Scotland’s historic listed buildings and monuments from 2017’s Wiki Loves Monuments competition including some fabulous pictures by Wikimedia UK trustee and OER Liaison at the University of Edinburgh, Lorna Campbell.

Once inserted into relevant Wikipedia pages in the 295 different language Wikipedias, these openly-licensed images will be introduced to a global audience of millions to view, share and reuse. As evidenced in this year’s State of Creative Commons report (which we’re enormously pleased features an obscure 17^th century map of Iceland shared by the university).
