At this stage what we're most trying to do is sell this to our potential members and sponsors - look at this great thing were doing! That's the audience at the moment, although of course our partner organisations will be a key audience in the future and we should bear that in mind at the same time.

I can certainly see “content liberation” being something that some potential partners might find offputting. It is technically liberation, as you take something out an archive that might only be available by visiting a specific museum. “Content showcasing”? maybe – if you’re dealing with a large gallery the letter of copyright might preclude adding everything they have (eg more modern stuff) to Commons. It also offers an option to build an ongoing relationship with a museum or gallery. They don’t need to share everything, and it could come out in bits and pieces – like giving a sample from the new exhibition they’re going to put on.

Gut feeling is, I don’t like "content access partnerships" as a name. Not particularly struck with the “showcasing” option above, but it is closer to something I think can be sold to the people you want to get images off.

Hi Mike,

I got "content liberation" from the Berlin chapters' meeting (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Chapters_meeting_2009/Schedule#Content_liberation). Thinking about it now, I can see why the partner organisations wouldn't be too keen to hear it described as "liberation"! It would be good to have something brief and snappy, though - how about "content access partnerships"? That describes what were doing - partnering with other organisations to increase access to their existing content. Thanks for your re-write.

I certainly agree Main Page needs some work - I've made a start and I'll put my thoughts on the talk page.

Andrew

Andrew,

"Content liberation" is a really bad phrase to use -- we're not
liberating it, we're working with institutions to make the content
more widely available. I've rewritten the project outline to try to
make this clearer... (will do more work on this when I'm more awake!)

Unless someone beats me too it, I'll rework the main page at some
point - it really needs to look a lot better than it does now! As a
result, it might be best to have a separate page for "keep in touch".

I'd also comment that anyone can come along to the AGM - they don't
have to be a member - although if they want to participate properly
then they obviously do need to be a member.
