Good question. The short answer is that the current staff are working insane hours, hence the board agreed that we needed office back-up. The new role will support our staff and the community by doing the day-to-day stuff - allowing us to focus on delivering targeted programme work.

Obviously given that we are now behoven to the FDC grant process I had to make a judgement as to whether we should appoint to this post. I chose to remain optimistic that the good work we are doing continues and will be recognised by the FDC. Freezing the post would have been the pessimistic route and would have involved risking staff burn-out or a reduction in our increasing programme - in effect going into semi-hibernation.

I decided to be optimistic, assessed our resources accordingly and have made the choice to appoint to this role.

So please, if you know of anyone who has the talents and enthusiasm who could apply for this job do send them our way.

Jon

Is hiring new staff really wise when there is still so much uncertainty surrounding the chapter? Are you that confident that the FDC is going to approve the budget for new staff, given the lack of confidence the WMF has in the chapter?

Hiring additional admin support is going to be an essential part of getting the chapter back on a stable footing, but you need to know you have funding before you can hire someone...
