Hi everyone,

We have created a new Slack channel for volunteer communications. Slack is a messaging app where we can talk, share files, and work together. You can use it on a computer or mobile.

We want to use the best communication tools to support each other with more ease. Everything that you share in Slack is automatically indexed, creating a searchable archive of all our communications.

We hope experienced Wikimedians in our community will find this space useful to support newcomers and answer their questions. We believe this can be a great opportunity for us to grow and reinforce our community.

How to get started

Step 1: Visit https://slack.com/signin and sign up with your email*

Step 2: Download the Slack apps for desktop and mobile

Step 3: Check out the getting started guide and learn how to use Slack

Step 4: Join Wikimedia UK Workspace

Step 5: Join #wiki-help-desk channel

* You don’t need to share your phone number or real name

Questions or feedback?

We encourage you to spend some time exploring Slack on your own. If you have questions about our Slack workspace, please post in the #wiki-help-desk channel in Slack or send an email to volunteering@wikimedia.org.uk. If you have general questions about Slack, their Help Centre is a great resource.

Looking forward to meeting you there!

Best wishes,

Esma Gjertsen (she/her)
