Hello Wikimedians, I want to let you know about a prospective project we are trying to organise with Lambeth Council. Former Wikimedia UK Chief Exec Jon Davies is now a Lambeth councillor, and we have been talking to him about projects that we could potentially do in collaboration with them. They are about to start renovating West Norwood Cemetery and want to run some events around this to improve the representation of the cemetery on Wikipedia and the people who are buried there.

Jon says:

"West Norwood Cemetery is one of the great Victorian Cemeteries of Britain. It has sadly suffered neglect over the last century but an ambitious plan by Lambeth Council funded by the Lottery Heritage Fund means that at last it will be restored to something of its former glory. Lambeth Council is keen to see this transformation and the cemetery's history celebrated and wants to work with WMUK to do this through improving pages, wiring new ones, releasing archive documents and photos and anything else we can think of."

In order to help manage this potential project, Wikimedia UK would like to find a lead volunteer to help us with the events and organisation of training. We can pay expenses to help with costs you might incur while working on this. We would be very grateful if any Wikimedians who might have an interest in London history, and who may live near West Norwood would let us know if they would be interested in getting involved in this project and helping us to steward it.

All the best,

John Lubbock
