Hello everyone,
Wiki Loves Earth, the photography competition themed around the natural
world, gets underway in a couple of months. We've been involved previously
and this year we are looking to have all four constituent countries of the
UK take part.
To help with that we are looking for volunteers to lead or help with the
competition in England and Scotland. The Wales competition will be led by
our Wales Coordinator, and we are working with Wikimedia Community Ireland
on the Northern Ireland competition. We have prepared an outline of what is
involved:

If you are interested in organising the competition, you can message the
WMUK programmes team at programmes(a)wikimedia.org.uk
Kind regards,
Richard Nevell

Hello everyone,
The industrial Dr. Blofeld has organised the European Destubathon, which
begins on 1 April and runs throughout the month.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Europe/The_European_Des…
There's always space for more participants, so do sign up whether you think
you might be able to contribute one article or you're planning on making a
tilt for the top prize for most overall destubs.
As a reminder, to destub an article you need to make sure it has more than
1,500 characters of prose (so excluding references, infobox, categories,
and lists). With 50 countries to write about, each with its own prize,
there's plenty of choice.
Good luck!
Richard

Hi

(Aberdeen Wiki Meetup Logo by Watty62 based on the Aberdeen City Flag with superimposed WP, WC and WD logos)
We’re kicking off a new Wiki Meetup in Aberdeen, starting on Monday 28th April.
We hope to make this early evening session monthly, or at least bi-monthly. We’ll see what the appetite is.
If you are going to be around in Aberdeen that day, and fancy joining us, please add your wiki username to this page please: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meetup/Aberdeen/1
This will be a relaxed, social session with tea coffee and snacks (thanks to Wikimedia UK’s generosity). We’ll be using the downstairs space of Code The City’s new HQ.
We will work out together how we want this to operate. Some people have already signed up and have expressed an interest in some creating small projects. The agenda will be driven by the attendees.
Hope to see you there
All the best
Ian

Dear UK Wikimedians,
If you happen to be in London on the 10th of March, please join us at
Newspeak House where Dr Denny Vrandečić
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denny_Vrande%C4%8Di%C4%87> will give an
update on Wikifunctions <https://www.wikifunctions.org/>, the newest
Wikimedia sister project. He will explain the project's goals, how
Wikifunctions can be used, where the project is now with more than 2000
functions, and where it is headed: the planned usage in Wikipedia and
towards a multilingual Wikipedia
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abstract_Wikipedia>, where everyone can
contribute to the knowledge commons.
Denny is Head of Special Projects at the Wikimedia Foundation, founder
of Wikidata and Semantic MediaWiki, and was previously an elected member of
the Board of Trustees of the WMF.
Unfortunately the event will not be accessible remotely. Please register if
you plan to attend: https://lu.ma/4rtmw5ch.
