International Women's Day, Wikipedia editing workshops and Wikipedia and AI
For your diary (and for information):
1.
Read about Wikipedia and Artificial Intelligence.<https://thinking.is.ed.ac.uk/wir/wikipedia-and-artificial-intelligence/> Wikipedia is now 24 years old so how does it respond to the brave new world of AI?
2.
Learn how to edit Wikipedia in our monthly hybrid workshop this Friday 28 February<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/imagine-a-gender-equal-world-help-write-wome…> from 1pm-2pm and then
Write and PUBLISH a new Wikipedia page of 50-100+ words from 2.30-5pm.
3.
Not everything is online. Far From it. So a little #KnowledgeActivism appearing in Google's top results is really impactful. Our International Women's Day event will feature a Wikipedia editing event on 1-5pm 7 March 2025<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/imagine-a-gender-equal-world-help-write-wome…> to add more brilliant lives & contributions of women online.
Hope you can join us at one of these or all events! All welcome.
Best wishes,
Ewan McAndrew SFHEA

Hello everyone,
I hope this finds you well.
Every year WMUK invites volunteers and partners to take part in the
Community Leaders Survey. The survey helps us monitor and improve the
experiences of our volunteers and partners who contribute to the delivery
of our charitable activities.
You may have already seen an email which was sent out last week. Thank you
to everyone who has already filled out the survey. We really value your
feedback.
*If you think you should've received this email but didn't, please let me
know off this list* so I can add you to our mailing list and send you the
link to the survey.
The survey will close on* Monday 17th February at 12PM. *
Thank you very much for your support of free, open and unbiased knowledge.
Best regards,
Rupal Karia on behalf of Wikimedia UK

Dear all
As you may have heard, following the Wikimedia Foundation board's veto of
the proposed Wikimedia Movement Charter last summer, they tasked the WMF
staff team to explore three pilot initiatives relating to different areas
of the Foundation's work, including grantmaking. As a result, a new interim
Global Resource Distribution Committee is being established, *with a call
for members open until 25th February.*
More details are in the Diff post here, which also links to all the
relevant meta pages:

Hello everyone,
Are you short on time but still want to contribute to the Wikimedia
projects? Wikimedia UK is launching a new resource to help editors who
would like to do small tasks whenever they’ve got some free time; Mini Wiki.
Every month, from February 2025, we will be adding to this blog
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/2025/02/time-contribute-open-knowledge-quick-wiki-…>
to showcase ideas on how you can get involved when you are short on time,
but still want to make an impact and support open knowledge projects.
*February’s themes are centred on languages and folklore, to celebrate
International Mother Tongue Day and the Wiki Loves Folklore* competition.
*Remember to add #wmuk to your edit summary to help us track contributions.
*And feel free to tag us on social media if you’d like to share your
progress @wikimediauk.
Every contribution makes a difference!
Best wishes,
Rupal and the rest of the programmes team
