*Black British Archives*
For any of you who are interested in Black British histories, the
George Padmore Institute (GPI)
<https://www.georgepadmoreinstitute.org/about> is a phenomenal resource
with an open online archive.
*From their website: *
"The Institute is an archive, educational research and information centre
housing materials and documents relating mainly to black communities of
Caribbean, African and Asian descent in post-war Britain and continental
Europe."
I am currently one of two authors working on a fictional novel inspired by
the archive. This project
<https://www.georgepadmoreinstitute.org/news-and-events/special-announcement…>is
an initiative to fill the gap in the market for British BIPOC youth.
Warm regards,
Anna J. McIntyre

Hi folks,
Just to let you know that registration is now open for another of our
Sandbox Sessions - *a Wikisource Transcribe-a-thon*, led by Dr Martin
Poulter!
The event will take place on Thursday 20 November, 18:00 - 20:00 UTC.
<https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Event:WMUK_Sandbox_Sessions/Wikisource_Trans…>
*About the event*:
This event will introduce Wikisource: a community that is building a huge
library of freely available texts. Together we will transcribe a pamphlet
or paper and explore how 1) contributing to Wikisource can be a rewarding
hobby and 2) how transcribe-a-thon events can be part of a campaign to
highlight kinds of literature and knowledge.
*About the presenter:*
Dr. Martin Poulter is a trainer for Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikisource who
helps professionals, students, and newcomers to share open knowledge. He
has held Wikimedia-related placements at the Khalili Foundation, the
Bodleian Libraries and the educational charity Jisc.
You can register for this event here
<https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Event:WMUK_Sandbox_Sessions/Wikisource_Trans…>-
we'll send the Zoom link out through the events extension, so please make
sure that you've got "Allow other users to email me" enabled in Preferences
> User profile. If you'd rather not have that enabled then please let me
know by email off-list.
Hope to see you there!
Best,
Sara

We’re delighted to invite you to Wikimedia UK’s Online Community Celebration,
taking place on Saturday 15 November, from 11am to 1pm.
This online gathering will celebrate the achievements of our incredible
community over the past year, recognise outstanding contributions through
the Wikimedian of the Year Awards, and showcase inspiring actvities from
across the UK through a series of lightning talks.
Over the past month, we’ve reached out to community members for talk
proposals, and we’re thrilled with the lineup we now have! So much
remarkable work happens behind the scenes in our movement, and this event
is a chance to shine a light on those efforts and celebrate them together.
Following the lightning talks, we’ll present the annual Wikimedian of the
Year Awards. You can find out more about the awards here
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/2025/10/wikimedian-of-the-year-awards-call-for-nom…>.
Nominations are open until 22 October.
This celebration is open to everyone, both Wikimedia UK members and anyone
interested in learning more about Wikimedia’s work in the UK and getting
involved.
Tickets are free, the event will be held on Zoom, and you can reserve your
tickets now through Eventbrite.
