Dear Wikimedia Reference Community,
Wikimania 2025 is just around the corner, taking place in vibrant Nairobi, Kenya from August 6-9, with a pre-conference on August 5. This year, as we celebrate Wikimania at 20 with the theme "Inclusivity. Impact. Sustainability.", we’re calling on you—experts in reference sources and their application in Wikimedia projects—to be a part of our dynamic program.
The Call for Program Proposals is ongoing and will close on 31 March 2025. We welcome submissions in any mode. Proposals can be presented in various formats:
● Remote presentations from the comfort of your home or workplace.
● Pre-recorded sessions to share at the conference.
● Onsite presentations in Nairobi, Kenya.
Your expertise in reference sources aligns perfectly with this year’s theme. To help spark ideas, here are a few topics that may align with the conference theme:
● Strategies to diversify reference sources across Wikimedia projects for greater representation of marginalized perspectives.
● Case studies showcasing how reference tools enhance the credibility and reach of Wikimedia content.
● Exploring sustainable partnerships between Wikimedia and reference providers to ensure access to reliable sources long-term.
Have a topic in mind? Submit your proposal now via the program submission site: https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2025:Program .
For any suggestions, comments, or requests, feel free to email wikimania(a)wikimedia.org . Our dedicated team of volunteers will be delighted to assist and engage with you.
We can’t wait to see your innovative and insightful proposals! We hope to see program proposals from the vibrant community, showcasing your invaluable contributions to inclusive and impactful content. Let’s make Wikimania 2025 a conference to remember, shaped by voices and ideas like yours!
