I am happy to report to you some few details that were talked about at a session that I was privileged to attend at the IGF (Internet Governance Forum). I am attending the conference as an expediter and where it suites I double up as a Wikimedian….: P

On that notable note, there was a session that was about local content on the internet .One of the participants described the internet as a key player in making content available. To me I see it as Creation (writing articles uses internet), preservation (saving on WMF servers, uses internet), dissemination (ISPs) and utilization of data (internet users accessing the data).

But it was noted that the internet is only relevant to the locals if we have home-grown content on the internet.

Wikipedia was also mentioned more than a few times where it was being used to survey the article viewed per language and in what region.

The grandfather of TCP/IP, Vint Cerf was in the house and he closed the meeting after saying that;

 “Purpose for measurement is not in numbers but is on the inside.”
