Hi Team,

That would be awesome. So the Plan Lodewijk and I talked is like this( Not exactly , but my thoughts and suggestions added)
  1. We hire a travel van with a tour guide
  2. we get interested tourists and journalists to sign up to be part of the Guided Museums and Monuments tour of Nairobi
  3. We make them take photos with the tour guide explaining all the symbolism and significance of the Monuments. We could make a video of the same tour (am working with some other external folks to finance this)
  4. they agree either to submit or surrender some of their best or all photos of the monuments under CC-BY-SA licence or to us WMKE which wil get them into the Wiki Loves Monuments Competition to stand a chance to win some cool prizes that we need to work on, We could try get some external folks onboard too (Samsung, Safaricom, etc)
  5. kabooooom, WML done with all the Nairobi Monuments with their articles and a cool video too of all the monuments :-)
So Once again, am calling on anyone who is interested in this simple plan to volunteer in some way to sign up here.

PS: WMZA have a very ambitious budget and plan for the WML, abt $60k USD :-)

Just to get jealous

Hello!

Yes we can.

Today I had the privilege to attend an expo at the Sarit Centre in Nairobi Kenya that drew exhibitors from the Kenyan IT industry, Film industry,Universities etc. The most interesting and Wikimedian thing about the event is that I attended and I talked to several filming and media houses about the Wiki Loves Monuments plus possibilities of having their journalists involved or even contributing images that they own.

Particularly, I spoke to filmbiz Africa, NTV and the Kenya Film Commission. They were very interested about Wikimedia and hopefully they would contact me in due course.

Hello!

Oscar, an Email barnster for that :-)

Yes Alex and I got the monuments list which has 300+ entries. These entries are of all sites and monuments in Kenya; some in Lamu, Eldoret, Kericho, Kisumu etc. The ones in the proximity of Nairobi city are about 100.

I started compiling the list on Wikipedia [1] and it is a Work in Progress as always is at Wikipedia. I only have one source of reliable information which is the list I personally acquired from National Museums of Kenya and that possibly explains why I haven't completed/expanded that list!!!

Today I had an intresting Chat With Lodewijik on the above and we quite come up with interesting ways to work and participate in the global Wiki Loves Monuments. I have a few bright ideas. Let me know where and how far we went with the Kenya Monuments lits?

All,

Any member keen on supporting  the same? please sign up here.
