Hello,

I love the enthusiasm that JKUAT folks have. However, I hate to break it down to you that WikiSaturday is (as far as I'm concerned) not aimed to discuss matters pertaining WMKE but more importantly to teach members how to edit.

I know that the matters in your agenda are paramount, but in the general Wikimedia community, editing is a top priority: http://strategy.wikimedia.org/wiki/Editor_Trends_Study. Sadly, editing was not even explicitly mentioned in your agenda.I honestly do believe that editing should be number 1 on your agenda, since less than a fifth of the current members are Wikipedia editors.

Just a suggestion.

Subject: [Wikimedia Kenya] Wiki-Saturday Minutes

Hallo everyone,
These are the minutes for the Wiki-Saturday session that we held today on 25th of June 2011 at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology main campus, Juja.
In attendance today were:
Our guest was
Top on the Agenda we had,
  1. The Wikipedia takes Nairobi Challenge
  2. Asaf's visit
  3. The AoA and MoA of the Chapter's incorporation
  4. The next Wiki-Saturday
  5. Others
Minutes
  1. The meeting began at 11:00am at the JKUAT's Assembly Hall Foyer.
  2. We discussed at length on the current status of the challenge. So far the areas/ locations / places to be photographed are being populated. This has been through the efforts of Alex, Oscar and Steve. We all got to learn how to populate the meta. However, it came to our concern that some buildings or locations of interest had no articles written about them both in the English and Swahili Wikipedia. But we decided to create stubs under the Swahili Wikipedia and link them to the sites of interest. This way we'll have more articles up in the Wiki and still have more commons up after the challenge.
    • Efforts have also been put to try and get a sponsor for the challenge (Samsung) as well as support and authorization from the ICT board. This have also been fast tracked by Alex.
    • It has come to our concern that some articles edited on the English Wikipedia are being deleted without sufficient reason being provided. So it would be quite important for someone to elaborate further on what is going on or on what is not being done correctly by the editors.
    • Points for the challenge are going to be awarded according to the location of the point of interest. For instance, CBD will be ten points, Westlands 15points, Lang'ata 20 points, Ngong' 25points, Dandora 30points and so on.
  3. As you all know, Asaf's visit is coming up in like a months time. Its very important we start planning on his accommodation and  schedule of activities ASAP. So we proposed Alex to to help oversee this since he has severally hosted visitors under Mozilla hence has the best ideas on how we can go about this.
  4. We suggested that we should have more members look into the drafts articles and memorandum of association and propose the desired changes on the wiki. We need  to increase the speed at which we are dealing with the incorporation issue for us to have clear cut responsibilities and  duties for everyone in the Chapter. This will be for our own long term and short term good.
    • The responsibilities of the board members are not clear yet especially that of the project manager. So lets try and put our suggestions up as quickly as possible on the wiki.
  5. The next Wiki - Saturday should be organized by our members from the Strathmore University. This should be held either on Saturday the 16th or 23rd of July 2011. Lets all try to attend these sessions as they really boost our team spirit and gets to open us up even more. We still insisted that even though the mailing list is a reliable tool for our communication, it is still not enough. So lets show up for the Wiki-Saturdays for our own improvements.
  6. Meeting was adjourned at 3:30pm East African Time and a tour of the JKUAT environs commenced immediately for our guest.
Thank you all for your participation in making this event a success. On behalf of the hosts, I would like to say it was a pleasure hosting this Wiki-Saturdays session. Thank you and be blessed.

N/B Participants please feel free to make your additions in case you note an omission.
